Organic Pollutant Monitor Horiba Model OPSA 150
Arasains Indonesia supplies the Horiba organics pollutant model OPSA 150. The OPSA 150 measurement technology is based on the absorption of organics at 254nm UV. Double bonds and ring compounds absorb easily UV and this can be correlated to organic load, COD, BOD. This equipment has been used widely for municipal waste water, car paint effluents, milk factories, central effluent treatment systems. This instrument uses the rotary cell length modulation which gives a large measuring range from 0.1 Abs to 5 Abs without messy adjustment of light path. This unique technology also allows continuous cleaning by a wiper thus allowing no drift and high resolution. The resolution of the OPSA150 is 0.0001 Abs, arguably the highest resolution in the market. This high resolution range allows to increase the detection limit.
Non Clogging pH Meter for Wastewater - Model H1
Measurement of pH in waste water treatment is very important because the microbes in the plant grow only at some optimal pH. Outages in pH can cause the whole plant to crash. However although pH is a simple measurement, doing it correct in a waste treatment plant is difficult due to the dirty nature of the water. Metals ions in waste water can easily migrate into the electrode and poison it. The Horiba pH electrode is made of special glass made by Horiba in Japan and the tip is impact resistant. The smooth contour between the glass membrane and glass body ensures self-cleaning by the flowing fluid. In case it is insufficient as in waste water which is sticky like paint, ultrasonic, air, brush cleaning is available. The Zircornia ceramic junctions minimize contamination and thus clogging.
Dissolved Oxygen Meter Horiba Polarographic DO
Dissolved oxygen is one of the most important analysis in waste treatment plant. Without oxygen or even when the oxygen content is too low, the microbes working for you will die of suffocation. Horiba polarographic DO is a membrane type DO with a measurement of up to 20 ppm. Horiba DO meter uses a proprietary cartridge type with a membrane cap simplifying sensor chip replacement and reduces time for maintenance. Replaceable cartridge lowers maintenance cost. The oxygen permeable membrane is made of perfluoroalkoxy resin (PFA) which provides excellent oxygen gas permeability. Diagnostic functions detects torn membranes and water leaks into the probe and issues an alarm. For better durability thicker 100µm membrane is available for use in dirty waters. Galvanic type DO meter is also available.
Optical Dissolved Oxygen Meter Horiba Model HD 200FL.
Membrane type dissolved oxygen meter requires maintenance and replacement of membrane. Horiba optical dissolved oxygen meter uses the latest optical method to measure DO. There is no need for any electrolyte, minimum flow velocity across the sensor and accumulation of sludge around the sensor affects little the readings. This is because there is no consumption of oxygen as in galvanic type electrodes as the level of oxygen causes changes in the luminosity of the instrument and as such no oxygen is consumed. The light source is a long life LED. Sensor cap replacement notification which is 2 years or more is built in. The readings are not affected by CO2 and H2S. The transmitter has a self-diagnostic function.
Suspended Solids and MLSS meter- Horiba HU200 Series
Microbes in waste water absorb organics and convert them to biomass. These biomass have to be removed when they accumulate over what is intended. The Horiba MLSS meter measures total suspended solids by light transmission from 1 to 20000 ppm. Other suspended solids meter measure by means of scattered and transmitted light. The HU 200 TB series has a proprietary dual light source with both a 90° and a back scatter photometer. The dual light source is a long life near infra LED at 660nm. The function of the dual light source is to cancel out fluctuations in light intensity through alternating pulsating light. This gives reliable and low drift measurements at low levels of turbidity. Cleaning of all models of Horiba turbidity is by a piston wiper. For high levels of turbidity there is a proprietary in built calibration curve to cater for the wide range.

Online COD by permanganate method
This analyser measures COD according to the standard method which uses Potassium permanganate to digest the organics. Other methods are surrogate methods. Permanganate oxidation is one of the most powerful oxidants and gives almost complete digestion of organics to give a true picture of the organic load in the water. The standard 2 hours digestion can be shortened to 20 mins by means of higher digestion temperatures. The HMI interface is a 5.7 inch color touch screen with function buttons. This can be remotely taken over by LAN Ethernet software. Download of data is by USB. Communications are by RS232, Ethernet, 4-20mA
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why the optical DO meter does not require flow past its probe whilst a minimum flow is needed for other types of DO meter?
This is because the galvanic and polarographic DO meter reads dissolved oxygen by means of current flow produced by oxidation of the electrode. To make a measureable current many molecules of oxygen is needed. Optical DO measures oxygen by fluorescent which consumes very little oxygen. Therefore even if the electrode is coated with sludge the meter can still measure oxygen levels reliably.
How does Horiba make its pH meter reliable and outperform many pH meters?
The response and accuracy of a pH meter depends on the thickness of the hydrogen selective glass on the probe. A thin glass makes the probe responsive and accurate but easily broken. A thick glass makes the response slow. Horiba overcomes this problem by making the electrode with a varying thickness, with a thin part for sensitivity and a thick part for ruggedness. The other problem is the clogging of the ceramic junction or the dilution of the electrolyte in the reference electrode. Horiba overcomes this problem by having a free flow junction. A large amount of electrolyte is available and keeps the ceramic junction always clean.
What is the difference between a total dissolved solids meter and a suspended solids meter?
a total dissolved solids meter measures conductivity and correlates it to total dissolved solids. A suspended solids meter measures turbidity and correlates it to suspended solids.
