Insitu Water Analyser-sonde

Go system spectral analyzer

Insitu spectral analyser- Go system

This is a system for the measurement of COD or BOD of river water or waste water by correlation with an absorbtion spectrum. This spectrum works in the visible to UV from 200nm to 800nm. When this spectrum is scanned through the water, the absorbtion spectrum is displayed in a computer software. Absorbtion at various frequencies can be then used to estimate the level of organics in the water which contributes to COD. The absorbtion path length can be easily adjusted to cater for various ranges. The measuring head consists only of the optics and they are connected to the electronics by means of a fiber optics cable.

This electronics is called the blue box which computes the data received from the optics and produces the absorption spectrum. It is capable of intelligent functions of calculating COD, BOD, nitrates, turbidity etc. Other sensors can be connected to the blue box like conductivity pH and all these inputs can be recalculated to be another virtual sensor, in other words another computed parameter. The blue box can also be connected by internet to the web where a powerful readymade software allows download anywhere.

Horiba U20XD sonde measurement parameters

Insitu water analyser Horiba sonde.

The pollution of rivers, ponds, dams and coastal water are a rising concern for the environment. Constant monitoring of these pollutants is necessary and in situ analysers is the choice method of analysis. Sondes are multiparameter continuous monitoring probes that are left inside the water body. Horiba supplies the WQ20 XD multiparameter sonde that can be deployed in the water body at selected depths. The sonde has independent battery power supply that can last for up to a month. Data retrieval is through a hand held transmitter. The following parameters are available:

U50 multiparameter sonde

The U50 multiparameter  sensor can also be deployed in a water body for continuous monitoring. This instrument however needs to be connected to a reader and needs constant power supply this can be supplied through a solar cell.

U50 sonde sensor head

The Horiba U50 multiparameter sonde can measure the following parameters:

  • Multiple sensors allow for the measurement of 11 paramenters simultaneously.
  • (pH, pH (mV), ORP, DO, COND, Salinity, TDS, Seawater, Specific Gravity, Temperature, Turbidity, Water depth)
  • Turbidity sensor U-53 conforms to US EPA method 180.1 Precision has been improved over conventional instruments. The Model U-53 high precision field replaceable sensor with wiper has a resolution of 0.01 NTU.
  • Turbidity sensor of U-54 conforms to EN ISO 7027. The model U-54 has a resolution of 0.01 NTU.
  • Improved stability of the dissolved oxygen sensor has been achieved with a new 3 electrode design for fast response and polarographic sensor for ease of maintenance.
  • pH and ORP electrodes can be replaced individually to reduce replacement costs.
